Nia celebrates 25 years of Joy!

In Nia's 25th anniversary year it boasts more than 1,500 licensed instructors in more than 31 countries worldwide – a testament to the power and versatility of this unique program. We have joined this inspiring group as licensed Nia teachers striving to bring this therapeutic fitness technique to St. Petersburg, FL.

Nia is a movement form that incorporates the dance arts (modern dance, duncan dance, and jazz), martial arts (aikido, tai chi, and tae kwon do), and healing arts (yoga, feldenkrais, and the alexander technique). Inspiration from these rich movement forms merge with soul satisfying music to create routines that offer mind-body-spirit wellness. The health benefits are on the inside and out.

What are the benefits of Nia?

Traditional benefits of Nia include cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility, strength, balance, endurance and relaxation.  Nia stimulates, motivates, and educates you about your body. It increases the pleasure of living in your body, and teaches you to be more joyful and expressive.  While working out you actually learn to self-heal parts of yourself and your body so you can reach the fullest potential you desire.  Nia is guided by the Pleasure Principle - if the body feels good, accepted and loved, it will naturally become stronger and heal. NO PAIN - ALL GAIN

Nia is for Every Body

No prior training is necessary - Everyone is welcome.  Nia is practiced by people of all walks of life, ages, and fitness levels.  Nia movements are adaptable to allow you to address your body's uniqueness, and support your body in shifting from its known way of functioning to the high organic functioning that is The Body's Way.  Regardless of how you have lived in, or treated your body you can heal, get fit, and find health with The Body's Way.

What do I wear to a Nia class?

Wear cool, loose fitting clothing - exercise or yoga clothing, leotard and footless tights, full skirt, shorts or anything that makes you feel comfortable and free to move.  We go barefoot in Nia as done in martial arts.  Each foot has 7,000 nerve endings that sense the ground and send information back to your brain.  This enables your body to effectively compensate and adapt.
